Who are AVOCADO?

Hamza Mohsin & Jake Migicovsky, two best friends who met in a London improv class many years ago. It took a while, but we eventually gave in and started hanging out on a full time basis. Aside from loving all the same improv, we also love all the same movies, all the same music… so naturally we blended everything together in our own unique improv show. We also write movies and run a semi-successful t-shirt company.

What kind of improv is AVOCADO?

American style, also known as Long Form, created and honed in the improv theatres of Chicago, New York and Toronto. In fact, Jake, who’s from Toronto, has trained at several of the improv powerhouses where this style was born; The Second City (Toronto), UCB (New York & LA), and IO (LA). It’s a style based around characters and relationships, where the laughs build over time and the audience is there for the entire journey.

HOW LONG IS A SHOW?

One hour. In that time, there might be anywhere between three and six scenes, or sometimes Avocado will perform a Mono-scene, creating one entire scene for the length of the show.

is avocado theatre or comedy?

Both! Avocado perform a new play with every show, weaving together themes and characters in a free flowing, unconscious way. No script. No plans. We just walk out on stage with the lights down low and see where the night takes us. A fully improvised play that ends up being a pretty good time.

The comedy bit takes care of itself, there’s just something naturally comedic about two people making things up on the spot, add to that the playful energy between Hamza & Jake and you’ve got a great night out. The audience and the performers are on the same page, all being surprised at once, it’s magic. If you’ve never been to an improv show, we highly recommend it.

what's the vibe like?

Very casual, very chilled out, lots of positivity. When you walk through into the theatre you’ll be welcomed with great music, selected with love. When the show starts, you get to sit back and relax, you won’t be asked for a word and we won’t pick on anyone except ourselves. The easy-going vibe continues til the end, where we’ve been known to keep the party going til closing.
